Welcome

Together We’re Stronger in the Foothills

The history of the Foothills has been built on one, simple conviction: that we are not many, but one, not a collection of communities, but one great people, bound to each other by the promise of equality, opportunity and justice for all. That, too, is the conviction of the Federal Liberal Party.

Our riding association is committed to promoting the core principles and values that have historically sustained the Liberal Party of Canada – individual freedom, responsibility and human dignity in the framework of a just society. We believe that the dignity of each individual man and woman is the cardinal principle of democratic society.

We Support the Foothills Strong Communities.

We believe in strengthening our communities by investing in the things that make them good places to live.

Investing in our communities is not just about creating good jobs and economic growth. It is also about building and strengthening our communities that we are proud to call home. With historic new investments in social infrastructure, we will achieve both. We will improve the quality of life for our riding by prioritizing investment in affordable housing, seniors’ facilities, early learning and child care, and cultural and recreational infrastructure.

Our party is committed to work with provinces, territories, and First Nations to create a new National Early Learning and Child Care Framework, to ensure that affordable, high-quality, fully inclusive child care is available to all families who need it.

Over the next decade, our party will invest almost $20 billion more in Canada’s social infrastructure.

We believe in Supporting Our Agriculture Industry.

We will help the Foothill’s agriculture sector be more innovative, safer, and stronger.

Canada’s farmers and ranchers are the foundation of our food sector. The work that they do to feed Canada and the world is vital, but government support is needed to help them with challenges ranging from transportation to water management to research and food safety. To attract investment and create good jobs in food processing, we will invest $160 million, over four years, in an Agri-Food Value Added Investment Fund. This will provide technical and marketing assistance to help food processors develop new value-added products that reflect changing tastes and market opportunities.

Agri-food and Food Processing

“The federal government says in the 2017 budget that in addition to specific investments made to support the growth of and innovation in Canada’s agri-food sector, it has undertaken other efforts to support Canada’s farmers and food processors:
• Launching a full review of rail service across western Canada.
• Creating a $10.1 billion Trade and Transportation Corridors Initiative that will invest in gateways and ports, to help get agri-food products to market.
• Successfully completing the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement with the European Union, and making ongoing efforts to expand market access for Canadian agri-food producers throughout Asia.
• Eliminating tariffs on a broad range of agri-food processing ingredients, covering approximately $700 million in annual imports, to strengthen the competitiveness of Canadian agri-food manufacturers at home and abroad.
• Improving access to support for agri-food value-added processors through the new Strategic Innovation Fund.
• Investing $500 million to support the expansion of broadband networks in rural Canada and $2 billion to support rural infrastructure including roads and bridges, making it easier for Canada’s agri-food producers to connect to markets in Canada and internationally.

Other highlights from the budget include launching the next agricultural policy framework in 2018 where federal, provincial and territorial governments will renew their commitment to investing in the sector.

Budget 2017 will also invest $70 million over six years to further support agricultural discovery science and innovation, with a focus on addressing emerging priorities, such as climate change and soil and water conservation.” From Food in Canada Magazine, March 23, 2017 used with permission.

Liberals believe in government as nation-building, and we have the record to prove it: Medicare, the Canada Pension Plan, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, official bilingualism and multiculturalism, and the best public finances in the world. We summoned up the best in Canadians and together we built the country we love.

Our party has always united Canadians. We are the big tent of Canadian life, where all are welcome and all can be sure their voices will be heard. Our party’s vocation is to strengthen the spine of our citizenship and to deepen the pride we feel for Canada on the world stage.

We respect our differences. We accept our identities. We do not impose one single brand of patriotism. We let our citizens decide. And that’s why we offer you a warm invitation to join with us, to become a part of your local Federal Liberal Association, to allow your voice to be heard and to work with us for a stronger, more responsible and caring government. Most definitely, we are stronger together.
